Ascension Religious Education Vision & Mission Statement

Ascension Religious Education: Pray, Learn, Live! The Religious Education Ministry of Ascension Catholic Church (Melbourne, FL) provides opportunities to grow in Faith. We provide formation for a life of discipleship.

Strengthened by God’s grace we:

  • form our members to participate in the celebration of the sacraments and liturgies of the Church. [PRAY]
  • assist all as they grow in spirituality and Christian prayer. [PRAY]
  • teach the Catholic faith and moral principles. [LEARN]
  • commit ourselves and our members to grow as a community focused on sharing the Good news through service and love for others, especially those in need. [LIVE]

Our Religious Education Office offers instruction and religious formation for children in grades K-8 as well as special sacramental preparation sessions for children preparing to receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation & First Eucharist. (The Confirmation Preparation Program is coordinated by Mark Kniepmann, Director of Youth Ministry.) Parents are required to participate in the sacramental preparation of their children. Members of the community are invited to participate as catechists, teacher aides, and sponsors. For more information, contact Betsy Glasenapp at 254-1595 x 3080 or email at dre@ascensioncatholicsch.org.

Classes are held from the end of August through May beginning after Brevard public schools begin and ending before the end of the school year. For the year 2013-2014, we will have classes on Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 – 5:15 PM for Grades K-6 and Wednesday evening from 6:30 – 7:45 PM for Grades 1-8.

We are also excited to offer a retreat option for our 7th & 8th grade students: a Sunday class once a month for 6 hours. Youth will cover the materials in one day that are covered in the whole month in the weekly sessions.

Ideally, children who are not in Ascension Catholic School would attend Religious Education classes K-8. Register now by downloading our registration form and returning it to the Parish Office or Religious Education Office. We will begin fall classes on August 27th & 28th, 2013.
