Anointing of the Sick

"Is any among you sick?
Let him call for the elders [presbyters] of the Church and let them pray over him,
anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;
and the prayer of the faith will save the sick man,
and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins,
he will be forgiven."

(James 5:14-15)

The Anointing of the Sick is a beautiful sacrament of Healing.

It is not the sacrament for the dying…Viaticum (the last reception of Holy Communion) is "food for the journey" and is the primary sacrament for the dying.

The Anointing of the Sick gives grace to assist people who are sick, in order to ease their suffering, to pray for healing, spiritual and physical, and to allow the ministry of the Church to assist them in their suffering. Thus, people should not wait until the deathbed to ask for the anointing of the sick, but if chronically ill should periodically request this sacrament.  It is for those who are ill, not just gravely ill.

Please call the parish office at 254-1595 to request the Anointing of the Sick.

The Anointing of the Sick "is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death...Anointing of the Sick is also for any who are very sick, will be experiencing a serious operation, or the elderly whose frailty becomes more pronounced"  (Catechism of the Catholic Church #1514-1515)
